Mitch Mustain arrested in drug sting

With signing day in full swing for most of the morning and into the afternoon, we haven’t been able to hit on the distressing news coming out of Los Angeles regarding a formerly highly-touted recruit. But, as we’ve hit a recruiting lull, we’ll go ahead and touch on it now.

According to multiple reports, former USC quarterback Mitch Mustain was arrested Tuesday night and charged with suspicion of selling prescription narcotics. Mustain was jailed in Los Angeles but released after posting a $30,000 bond.

Not many details of the arrest were available, other than it was part of a sting operation.

Mustain was a five-star prospect and the No. 2 quarterback in the country in 2006, signing with Arkansas as a much-ballyhooed prospect coming out of the state. He then infamously transferred to USC after one tumultuous season with the Razorbacks, where he promptly sat on the bench behind first Mark Sanchez and then current starter Matt Barkley.

The Los Angeles Times writes that Mustain has been preparing for USC’s “pro day” workout scheduled for next month.
