Unfortunately, the injury was as bad as originally thought.
Following Washington State’s loss to USC, Mike Leach confirmed that Connor Halliday suffered a broken right leg early on in the game. As a result, the prolific quarterback will miss the remainder of the season.
Not only that, but because this is his final season of eligibility and he has no recourse for a medical redshirt, his collegiate career has come to an end.
Halliday suffered the injury in the first quarter after before rolled up on by Trojans defensive end Leonard Williams. Halliday crumpled to the ground in obvious distress and, after having an air cast placed on the injured limb, was taken off the field on a cart.
He was already in surgery during Leach’s post-game press conference.

Halliday will finish the 2014 season with 3,873 yards passing and 32 touchdowns, both totals that are tops in the nation and likely will remain that way for at least one more week if not two. He was on a pace that would’ve gotten him close to the FBS single-season record of 5,833 by Texas Tech’s B.J. Symons. His 11,304 career passing yards are a school record and fourth in Pac-12 history.
With Halliday shelved for the remainder of the year, Luke Falk will take the reins of Wazzu’s offense. Taking over after the injury, the freshman completed nearly 67 percent of his 57 passes for 370 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
