Service academy football, y’all. And it’s awesome.
Navy opened its season today against Fordham, and it’s been a relatively successful initial time out as the Midshipmen lead FCS Fordham 35-10 at halftime. The academy did sustain a blow in the first half as starting quarterback Tago Smith went down with a right knee injury and was ruled out for the remainder of the opener.
So, naturally, in order to buttress the depth at the position, Navy did what any other program would do -- they went into the stands and pulled a Midshipman out of the Brigade.Freshman QB Malcolm Perry was not dressed to start the game. The “pulled out of the Brigade” line set Twitter ablaze, but Navy’ Scott Strasemeier took to the same social media site to stress that the program didn’t just pull some random future officer from the stands and slap a helmet and pads on him.
