Any hope Penn State had of Derek Moye would return earlier than expected from injury has officially been dashed. In fact, the initial prognosis may have been overly optimistic.
The wide receiver broke the fifth metatarsal bone in his left foot Oct. 11 when he slipped on stairs in his apartment after dinner. At the time, the school said he would miss two games because of the injury; after missing this past weekend’s win over Purdue, it was confirmed Monday that he will indeed miss the game this weekend against Northwestern.
The news on Saturday’s game was made official when the Nittany Lions released their injury report yesterday. Tuesday, the news on Moye’s status got slightly worse.
“The kind of injury he had, they were talking three or four weeks. If we have him in three weeks, we have two weeks to go,” head coach Joe Paterno said Tuesday, meaning Moye could miss the game after next as well.
Despite missing a game, Moye still leads the team in receptions (28), receiving yards (485) and receiving touchdowns (three). Brandon Moseby-Felder started in place of Moye against the Boilermakers, and is listed as the starter on the latest depth chart.
