No wage Freeze as Ole Miss bumps coach’s pay

After leading Ole Miss to its first winning record since 2009 and a bowl berth for the first time since the same season, Hugh Freeze is on the receiving end of a revamped deal.

In the works for the past few weeks, Hugh Freeze received a one-year contract extension that could keep the head coach at the school through 2016. After making $1.5 million in 2012, Freeze is now slated to make $2 million in 2013.

Freeze also receives $100,000 per SEC win after the first conference victory. His previous deal had called for an additional $100,000 for every SEC win.

Additionally, Freeze’s new contract calls for a 10-percent increase in the salary pool for assistant coaches.

Freeze went 6-6 in his first season in Oxford, including a 3-5 record in the SEC. The Rebels had lost 14 straight and 16 of its last 17 conference games prior to Freeze’s arrival.
