Oregon names Darron Thomas as their starting QB

(Let’s see if we can get this right this time. My apologies for the earlier glitch as my head was shoved someplace that you wouldn’t think was physically possible.)

Head coach Chip Kelly announced earlier in the week that the world would know who Oregon’s starting quarterback would be come the weekend.

“Saturday morning when we come out to practice (for) New Mexico, we’ll know who our starting quarterback’s going to be,’' Kelly said Monday. “It’s been the same plan all along, I’m not being evasive.”

Well, technically, it is Saturday morning in Munich.

A day before expected, the school has announced the somewhat unexpected: Darren Thomas is officially the Ducks’ new starting quarterback. The school made the announcement on their official Twitter feed.

The sophomore had been in a neck-and-neck battle with senior Nate Costa starting in spring practice and continuing through summer camp for the right to replace Jeremiah Masoli under center. The UO coaching staff had steadfastly refused to give even the slightest of hints as to which one of the two may have had an edge, although there was growing sentiment from the outside that Thomas could very well be Kelly’s choice in the end.

And, in the end, that the correct line of thinking, regardless of how much I attempted to make it the other way.
