Oregon State’s Rodgers could be back for game against ASU

Oregon State receiver/kick returner James Rodgers could be back for the Beavers as early as Wednesday, says coach Mike Riley.

In a 37-24 loss to Boise State Saturday night, Rodgers suffered a helmet-to-helmet blow in the third quarter and was experiencing concussion-like symptoms. Rodgers was seen anxiously pacing the sidelines asking teammates and coaching staff where his helmet was. Team medical staff had taken away Rodgers’ helmet so the senior could not return to the field.

Riley said that Rodgers will go through standard team protocol for athletes stricken with concussion symptoms, but if he clears all tests, could return to practice during the week and play against Arizona State in week five.

In the loss against Boise State, Rodgers had two catches for 11 yards, but electrified the Smurf Turf when he returned a 54-yard punt for a touchdown in the first quarter.
