Oregon’s Tristen Wallace, Darrian Franklin under investigation for sexual assault

A little additional light has been shed on a situation involving two members of the Oregon football program.

The Oregonian writes that neither wide receiver Tristen Wallace nor linebacker Darrian Franklin have been “mentioned in any of UO’s in-house daily practice reports after Oct. 4.” A UO official confirmed to the same newspaper that both players were indefinitely suspended by then-head coach Mark Helfrich in early October and have remained that way even after Helfrich’s firing and the hiring of Willie Taggart.

While the school has yet to confirm the reasons behind the suspensions, the paper, citing unnamed sources, is reporting that the two have been barred from campus in the midst of a criminal investigation into allegations of sexual assault. “The Lane County district attorney’s office is investigating after receiving reports from both Eugene and University of Oregon police,” The Oregonian reported.

Details of what to the allegations are extremely minimal.

... in early October the university’s Office of the Dean of Students restricted both players from all UO property, which includes any athletic facilities, and UO police interviewed Wallace as part of its investigation, according to a source with knowledge of the meeting. Horace Raymond, an Oregon assistant athletic director for player development, was present during the interview, according to the source.

It should be noted that neither player has been charged with a crime. Additionally, they are still listed on the roster posted to the team’s official website.

Wallace and Franklin were four-star 2016 signees, with the former the second-highest rated recruit in this year’s class and the latter the sixth. Neither player had played this season and were ticketed for redshirts even prior to the off-field allegations.
