Report: OU’s Daniel Brooks arrested on assault complaint

An incident earlier in the week has landed an Oklahoma football player in a bit of legal hot water, the Daily Oklahoman reported.

According to the paper, running back/defensive back/running back Daniel Brooks was arrested early this past Monday morning on an assault and battery complaint. Other than the incident occurring shortly before two a.m. local time, no details of what led to the arrest were available.

The reason for the paucity of particulars? Allow the paper to explain:

Norman Police Capt. Tom Easley said he couldn’t provide more details about the case because it was assigned to mediation, meaning criminal charges haven’t been filed and the parties are seeking to settle the dispute out of court.

Brooks was recruited to the Sooners as a running back in 2012, but, after tearing his ACL shortly after signing with OU, he was moved to the secondary. The redshirt freshman has subsequently moved back to the backfield, although he’s yet to see the playing field in an actual game.

UPDATED 4:39 p.m. ET: Well, this is certainly an interesting development.

Shortly after the Daily Oklahoman posted its story that Daniels had been arrested on an assault and battery complaint, the player took to Twitter to deny the report. Vehemently deny it.
