Pair of Buckeyes slapped with assault charges?

The Monday police blotter continues this afternoon with word that two members of the Ohio State football program stepped into a pile of legal issues over the weekend.

Citing unnamed sources, the Columbus, OH, NBC affiliate is reporting that sophomore linebacker Storm Klein and junior defensive lineman Nate Williams were charged with misdemeanor assault early Sunday morning. At 4:17 a.m., police officers were called to a local hospital to investigate a report of an assault.

The 20-year-old victim said he was at a birthday party his friend threw for him at a house off East 15th Avenue.
The victim said he woke up and found two people harassing his girlfriend. He said he told the two males to stop.
The victim said the males knocked him to the ground and began punching him.
The victim suffered a cut under his right eye, and the injury required stitches.

Head coach Jim Tressel was not available for comment, but is slated to speak at the Big Ten media days shortly and will likely be asked about the situation.

UPDATED 1:22 p.m. ET: Lori Schmidt of 1460 The Fan in Columbus has informed us that the television station has taken down the story, and they are now reporting that the two Buckeye football players are merely suspects at this point in time.
