Nevada vs. No. 22 Southern Miss
Dec. 24, 8 p.m. ET, ESPN
At Honolulu
Crisply carrying out their assignments might not be the first thing on the minds of the Golden Eagles (11-2) this holiday season. Not only are they headed off to Honolulu, they do so with lame duck head coach Larry Fedora, who is packing his bags for North Carolina.
Nevada, on the other hand, has been an extremely frequent visitor to Aloha Stadium in recent years. The Wolf Pack (7-5) will take the 50th State in stride and go about their business, eager to wipe away memories of their late-season failure to repeat as WAC champs.
Nevada’s pistol offense won’t fire cleanly against the Golden Eagles’ newfangled 4-2-5 stop unit deployed by defensive coordinator Dan Disch, but the Wolf Pack will get the job done in the fourth quarter.
Opening point spread: Southern Miss by 5 1/2
The pick: Nevada 28-27
