Austin Appleby began the 2015 season as Purdue’s starting quarterback, but may end up at another football program when it’s all said and done.
According to the Indianapolis Star, Appleby has been given permission by head coach Darrell Hazell to pursue other options when it comes to his collegiate playing career. As Appleby is graduating this month, he would be free to transfer to another FBS program and play immediately in 2016.
In that vein, Appleby was reportedly spotted at a Western Kentucky practice Friday. Record-setting quarterback Brandon Doughty will be leaving the Hilltoppers following this season for the NFL, leaving an opening for a player like Appleby to grab.

Appleby started the first three games this season before being replaced by David Blough. Appleby also started the season finale when Blough sustained a concussion the game before. Blough, though, is deemed the future at the position for the Boilermakers.
Last season, Appleby started seven of the 10 games in which he played. For his career, Appleby’s thrown for 2,777 yards, 19 touchdowns and 19 interceptions.
