With an NCAA investigation ongoing in the wake of the Nevin Shapiro scandal, the last thing Miami needed was any sort of controversy related to a player potentially receiving impermissible benefits.
While it’s yet to be determined if that’s the case with safety Ray-Ray Armstrong, it’s more than certain that Armstrong didn’t use common sense when tweeting the following on Sunday night:
“Just left Prime 112 wit @arinicolelife never seen a chicken this big.”
In plain English, Armstrong said he was having dinner with Ari Washington, the president of Double Coverage PR Group, which works with professional athletes. Below is a picture of the tweet.
What isn’t known is if Armstrong paid for his own meal. If he didn’t, that would be a violation of NCAA rules. Either way, Miami has suspended Armstrong for Saturday’s game against Florida State, the Miami Herald is reporting. Coach Al Golden later confirmed the suspension on his weekly radio show.
Armstrong was suspended or the first four games of the season for taking benefits from Shapiro. Additionally, he was forced to repay the $788 in benefits he took.
