LSU and Texas A&M will close out the regular season on Thanksgiving night, but the Tigers will look to get out of College Station with a win without running back Leonard Fournette. According to a report from The Advocate, Fournette did not make the trip to Texas A&M with the team.
Fournette has been playing through and missing playing time lately due to an ankle injury that has slowed him down. He was said to be day-to-day this week. Fournette was not scheduled to play last weekend at home against Florida but did end up seeing the field after asking to play following a pregame shouting and pushing match with the Gators and some assistants. Fournette was not his dominant self and was used at times as a decoy of sorts. There will be none of that this week as Fournette is not even with the team.
Fournette is widely expected to be heading to the NFL after this season, so nursing the ankle now makes perfect sense, especially with nothing on the line as far as an SEC title shot or a playoff bid. It remains to be seen if Fournette will suit up again for the Tigers with a bowl trip looming and NFL Draft preparation hitting full speed after that.
In the meantime, Fournette can stay home and help himself to an extra serving or two or three of his favorite Thanksgiving sides and root on his team in front of the TV.
