In somewhat of a surprise move, Rutgers has lost the most productive piece of its offensive puzzle to the professional ranks.
Running back Jawan Jamison announced via a press release issued through the school that he has elected to forego his remaining eligibility and enter the 2013 draft. The surprising part for some will be the fact that Jamison left two years of eligibility on the table.
“Jawan has been an exciting player for us during his career,” said RU head coach Kyle Flood. “He is a running back with tremendous vision, great balance and has the gift to make people miss in the open field. We wish Jawan well as he begins his journey to play in the NFL.”
After redshirting his true freshman season in 2010, Jamison led the Scarlet Knights in rushing the past two seasons. He rushed for 1,075 yards in 2012 and was named second-team All-Big East following what turned out to be his final collegiate season.
Rutgers notes in its release that Jamison becomes the sixth Scarlet Knight to leave early for the NFL since 2008, joining teammate Logan Ryan from this year’s team. Included in that group is Ray Rice, who left RU early and is now an All-Pro running back for the Baltimore Ravens.
