It’s been somewhat of a quiet season for Clemson wide receiver Sammy Watkins, especially given his breakout freshman campaign in 2011.
Watkins sat out the first two games of the season due to a suspension and missed another game because of an illness. In all, he’s third on the team in receiving yards and has zero receiving touchdowns.
He won’t get one tonight, either -- at least not right away. A Clemson spokesperson confirmed to multiple media outlets that Watkins will not start, but will play, against the Demon Deacons because he was late to a Wednesday meeting.
Watkins had a slow game against Wake Forest last year -- at least by his All-American standards -- catching five passes for 62 yards.
