Early last month, the father of Boston College quarterback Justin Tuggle, Atlanta Falcons legend Jessie Tuggle, had this to say about his son and the Eagles’ QB competition:
“I think he’s the best quarterback on the team.”
As of today, BC head coach Frank Spaziani agrees.
According to the Boston Globe, Spaziani has placed Tuggle atop the depth chart as the prohibitive favorite coming into summer camp, David Shinskie, is still hampered by a cracked rib.
The redshirt freshman Tuggle, though, shouldn’t get too comfortable in the No. 1 spot. If Shinskie returns by next Tuesday -- and no later than Tuesday -- the former minor league baseball player could be in line for the start in the opener.
Spaziani, though, didn’t seem to be holding his breath for that development.
“It’s pain tolerance,” the coach said when asked what it would take to get Shinskie on the field. “So I don’t know. If he (Shinskie) comes out Tuesday and looks great then I will have to factor that in. I’m not sure that is going to happen.”
With Shinskie out, true freshman Michael Marscovetra slides into the backup role, at least temporarily.
