Sonny Cumbie confirms he’s leaving Texas Tech for TCU

The overhaul of TCU’s offensive coaching staff continues, with the Horned Frogs raiding a conference rival’s staff for their latest addition.

During a radio interview Monday, Sonny Cumbie confirmed he is leaving Texas Tech to take a job at TCU. Cumbie had been outside receivers coach/co-offensive coordinator with the Red Raiders; with the Horned Frogs, Cumbie will serve as quarterbacks coach/co-offensive coordinator.

“This was not something that I sought out or was looking for,” Cumbie said during the interview. “I think sometimes whenever someone leaves you automatically assume there’s something dysfunctional about it or there’s somebody that’s mad or anything like that. That was not the case. This is a situation where I was presented it, contacted by them a while back about the opportunity to be the co-offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.”

The move comes a few days after Houston’s Doug Meacham was named offensive coordinator by Gary Patterson.
