Arkansas opened summer camp Thursday and, needless to say, all eyes were on quarterback Ryan Mallett.
Mallett suffered a broken bone in his foot earlier this offseason that forced the preseason Heisman contender to undergo two medical procedures and miss spring practice. Throughout the process, there was some concern that the foot was not healing as quickly or as well as anticipated, so yesterday was the first day Mallett could publicly show exactly where he stands physically.
Fortunately for the whole of Razorback Nation, Mallett seems to have passed the biggest test in his recovery thus far with flying colors.
“The leg is a little sore for the first full practice in a while, but other than that I feel good,” Mallett said.
The inactivity caused by the broken foot left Mallett a bit rusty, but otherwise it was nothing but positives coming from the quarterback.
“It’s been a while,” Mallett said. “I can tell I was a little rusty today but it’s a process in the fall camp anyway. Being out there with your team, it gives you a chance to enjoy the process and become closer. It feels great to be back out there.”
Head coach Bobby Petrino added that "[i]t was great to have his leadership back out there, so it was a great start.”
