Stanford began spring practice on Monday, and so too the process of trying to find Andrew Luck‘s successor at quarterback. The Cardinal have five options in that department, but all of them may have one less option at receiver in the coming months.
Coach David Shaw said Monday that sophomore-to-be wide receiver Ty Montgomery could miss spring practices because of a hand injury.
“We’re going to be overly cautious (with Montgomery),” Shaw said.
Montgomery was the team’s fourth-leading receiver last season with 24 receptions for 350 yards and two touchdowns. But with senior receiver Chris Owusu and tight end Coby Fleener departing, Montgomery could play a much bigger role for the Cardinal in 2012.
Additionally, Shaw said running back Anthony Wilkerson (leg injury) won’t participate in spring drills. Wilkerson was Stanford’s third-leading rusher last season.
