Starting DE Dezmond Johnson ruled out for Duke vs. Miami

For the second straight week, Duke will be without a starting member of its defensive line.

On its officially injury report released Thursday, Dezmond Johnson was one of four Blue Devils announced as out for the Miami game Saturday due to injury. The defensive end is dealing with an unspecified leg injury that kept him out of the game last weekend.

Johnson started the first three games of the year prior to his injury. Johnson has played in 45 games the past three-plus seasons, so the Blue Devils will, again, be missing his experience in the rotation.

Jonathan Jones started in place of Johnson last week, and will presumably do the same this week.

In addition to Johnson, the following players, all reserves who are not a part of the two-deep depth chart, have been ruled out: tight end Dan Beilinson (upper body), cornerback Johnathan Lloyd (lower body) and offensive lineman Trip McNeill (lower body).

Also, No. 2 quarterback Thomas Sirk (leg) is listed as questionable on the injury report. In spot duty this season, Sirk has completed 7-of-11 passes for 42 yards and a touchdown.
