It’s been 12 whole days since we last reported that former Michigan -- and Miami (sort of) -- quarterback Tate Forcier was looking at San Jose State as a possible destination for transfer -- one of several places he was considering -- and quite frankly, I’m thinking about asking the good IT folks at NBC to consider a “Forcier Tracker” of sorts similar to our police blotter.
Anyway, as the summer drags on into the dead period of June, it looks as though the University of Hawaii is the latest program to have piqued the interest of Forcier. Sources familiar with the situation have told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that Forcier sent a three-page letter to UH, including a copy of his scholarship release from Michigan.
UH head coach Greg McMackin and offensive coordinator Nick Rolovich declined to comment on the situation, and so far, the university has not expressed any reciprocal interest in the quarterback.
Of course, that doesn’t mean they aren’t interested. The Warriors have two seniors -- Shane Austin and Bryant Moniz -- on the roster for this fall.
If you’ll recall, Forcier was previously considering such schools as Auburn, Montana, Kansas State and San Diego State because he wanted to be closer to home.
For the record, Hawaii is a bit of a haul by plane, which certainly doesn’t lend itself to the “close to home” argument. Then again, judging by our featured picture, Hawaii might just be the place Forcier needs to clear his head. Or, dangle from hotel windows. Either one.
UPDATED 5:27 p.m. ET: A tweet from the QB Force Twitter page -- the page for the Forcier brothers -- denies there’s been any contact with Hawaii.
“To date - Quarterback Tate Forcier has not contacted or visited the University of Hawaii.”
Interestingly, on Tate Forcier’s personal Twitter page, there’s neither a confirmation nor a denial of any interest in Hawaii.
