Tim Brewster feeling third-degree burns on buttocks

There’s warm seats and hot seats. Then there’s Minnesota coach Tim Brewster.

The Golden Gophers’ 29-28 loss to Northwestern early this afternoon hurt. Not because the fighting Brewsters have lost four straight and yet to win a home game, but because Saturday’s match-up was within grasp.

But Minnesota couldn’t execute a game-winning drive to topple the Wildcats, a microcosm of the team’s struggles through five games.

To say Minnesota has started 2010 on the wrong foot would be an understatement as large as the Great Lakes for which the state is known. After a razor-close win on the road to Middle Tennessee, the Gophers have dropped four straight and Brewster is feeling the heat.

There were opportunities. Northwestern committed three turnovers andten penalties, but Minnesota countered with only three third-downconversions all day.

You can’t win that way.

Brewster needs to light a fire under his team if they’re going to turn this season around. After all, the four-year coach has one lit under him.
