Two Jayhawks arrested for robbery, one suspected of sexual battery

We’ll end the day here at CFT the same way we started it, with news of the arrest of a college football player(s), albeit one significantly more serious than the first.

According to the Lawrence Journal-World, a pair of Kansas Jayhawks, cornerback Eric Rivers and linebacker Kendall Duckworth, were arrested Monday and charged with robbery. It’s alleged that, very early Saturday morning, Rivers and Duckworth robbed a man of $40.

Neither player was armed, and the alleged victim was not injured.

Additionally, Rivers was being held on suspicion of sexual battery and criminal restraint because of a separate incident a day later. From the Journal-World:

Around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday a female KU student told police that Rivers touched her “inappropriately” and attempted to remove her clothing without her consent, Anguiano said.

As a result of the incidents, Rivers has been dismissed from the football program by head coach David Beaty. Duckworth, meanwhile, has been indefinitely suspended from all team activities.

“I am aware of the situation and am in the process of gathering all of the facts,” Beaty said in a portion of his statement.

Both Duckworth and Rivers were in their first season with the program in 2015. The former played in seven games last season as a true freshman and was credited with three tackles (one tackle for loss), while the latter, a junior college transfer, took a redshirt.
