UFL’s Omaha Nighthawks take Masoli, Herzlich in draft

Yeah, yeah, it’s the UFL, but the Nighthawks of Omaha (who I believe are the subject of an upcoming Will Ferrell B-list faux bio film) have drafted a couple notable college players -- specifically, former Oregon/Ole Miss quarterback Jeremiah Masoli and Boston College linebacker Mark Herzlich.

And, in case you were wondering, those would be the same Omaha Nighthawks who picked up former Ohio State running back Maurice Clarett.

Masoli was drafted 38th overall and Herzlich was the 51st pick.

Obviously, there were higher expectations for Herzlich, who looked to be a solid draft choice before he was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma. Masoli, as you remember, was on the wrong end of Chip Kelly‘s boot at Oregon before landing at Ole Miss for a season.

Regardless, it’s interesting that Herzlich, who had a lot of NFL potential, and Masoli, who, well, didn’t, landed on the same minor league team.
