There’s something about Athens bars and Georgia football players that haven’t been mixing well of late.
Last week, start running back Todd Gurley was accused, falsely as it turns out, of punching an UGA student while at the Bourbon Street Bar and Grill. A week later, it was a Bulldog on the receiving end of some physical abuse.
According to the Athens Banner-Herald, linebacker Kosta Vavlas was at the Silver Dollar Bar early Sunday morning when he was punched in the face by a 23-year-old man. What led to the punch? The bar was crowded and Vavlas ended up being pushed into a crowd of people, one of whom threw the punch.
Vavlas was slightly injured, suffering a chipped tooth and an unspecified injury to his nose.
The alleged aggressor, Jeffery Cody Bradford, was caught by police a few blocks from the bar. He was arrested on a battery charge.
Vavlas has played in all five games this season and has been credited with eight tackles. He’s played in 41 games since the beginning of the 2011 season.
