According to the Miami Herald, the college football world could be looking at a Labor Day tilt between traditional rivals Miami of Florida and Florida State. And -- SURPRISE!!! -- ESPN is interested in making it happen.(We’ll allow you to catch your breath for a minute after the stunning revelation in the preceding sentence. You good? OK, let’s continue...)Miami has already moved three of their four non-conference games, including the home opener originally scheduled for September 5.With that date now open, and Labor Day falling two days later this year, both ESPN and the ACC would like to see the high-profile matchup moved to the holiday date."It’s not definite, but it’s a possibility,” ACC associate commissioner for football operations Michael Kelly told The Herald. “ESPN has mentioned it to be of interest to them as Miami-Florida State has been one of the more highly rated games in the past."The biggest hurdle to clear is FSU currently has a game scheduled versus Maine on the fifth. If Maine were amenable to the change, Florida State would need to find another non-conference foe at a later date.To their credit, Maine is given strong consideration to allowing the switch."We’re working on finalizing our schedule,” said Maine athletic director Blake James. “I would never say something isn’t possible, but we still have FSU on our schedule. If that were something we were able to do and they wanted to do, obviously that’s something we’d consider."We ran the above quote through the Official CollegeFootballTalk.com Translation Machine (TM), and this is what it spit out: “Show us the money down the road, and you can have your UM-FSU Labor Day throwdown.”
