Update: McGee suspended for at least one game

Mack Brown certainly didn’t waste any time in whipping out the suspension lumber.

Shortly after it was first reported that running back Vondrell McGee had been arrested over the weekend on a drunk-driving charge, Texas head coach Mack Brown has announced that the senior will be suspended for the season opener against Rice.

At least.

“We’re aware of Vondrell’s situation and are disappointed anytime one of our players is accused of wrongdoing,” Brown said in a statement. “We take a strong stance against drinking and driving and will thoroughly investigate this situation to get more details.

“We¹ve talked to Vondrell and his family and decided, as of now, he will miss at least the first game next season and will be working with the scout team until he is eligible to play.”

Incidentally, in their last six meetings dating back to 2003, the Longhorns are 6-0 and have outscored the Owls by a combined 296-61.

Yeah, UT might be OK without McGee for the opener.
