VIRGINIA KICKS LALICH OFF THE TEAM

Virginia starting quarterback Peter Lalich has been dismissed from the team as a result of admitting that he violated his probation."We have supported Peter, but believe today a point has been reached where it’s best for all concerned that he no longer participate on the team,” athletic director Craig Littlepage said. “This is my decision and it has the support of head football coach Al Groh. We wish Peter the best in the future. We will have no further comment."Lalich started the Cavaliers’ first two games, a loss to USC and a win over Richmond.The Cavaliers are off to a 1-2 start, with blowout losses to USC (which is excusable) and UConn (which is not). They’re off this weekend and next play a road game at Duke, which all of a sudden doesn’t look like an easy W. Sophomore Marc Verica will likely start at Duke.
