Welcome to 2010: Big Ten gets HD replay booths

After a slew of questionable calls last season, the Big Ten is finally cashing in all that fancy Big Ten Network money and upgrading the replay system for officials, joining the SEC with HD monitors in their replay booths.

“The Big Ten was the first conference to experiment with instant replay in college football, and we feel the use of high-definition video will enhance our officiating program for the future,” Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany said in a statement. “DVSport has been a terrific partner and we look forward to continued service and support as we upgrade to the high-definition instant replay system.”

It only makes sense that after every Big Ten game was broadcast to the general public in HD that the people in charge of making critical calls would be able to see the game the same way. I look forward to hearing Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany come up with new excuses for his refs futility after they don’t have rabbit ear antennas to blame anymore.
