Wooed by A&M, Texas DL coach Brick Haley sees salary double

Who says flirting when already in a relationship doesn’t pay dividends.

In February, it was reported that Texas defensive line coach Brick Haley was offered the same position at hated rival Texas A&M. After mulling over the job offer for a couple of days, Haley opted to stick with the Longhorns.

Fast-forward three months, and Haley has been handsomely rewarded for his loyalty. Haley, according to multiple media outlets, will earn a base salary of $495,000 in 2016, a number more than double his 2015 salary of $235,000.

Haley’s pay last season was the lowest of any of Charlie Strong‘s UT assistants.

Haley will be entering his second season as a member of Strong’s coaching staff. In this past recruiting cycle, he helped land four top prospects from the state of Louisiana. “Two of those players were among the five defensive tackles inked by the Longhorns in the 2016 class,” burntorangenation.com wrote.

The substantial bump for Haley wasn’t the only contract-related news when it comes to Longhorns assistants. From the
Austin American-Statesman:

Tight ends coach Jeff Traylor is also in line for a substantial raise, going to a $350,000 base salary up from $245,000. Traylor is considered to be a strong recruiter in East Texas.

The UT regents agenda book also outlined the salaries for the new assistants. Defensive backs coach Clay Jennings’ base salary is $400,000. Receivers coach Charlie Williams will receive $375,000. Running backs coach Anthony Johnson is slated to get $325,000.
