WVU starting lineman out at least two months with knee injury

The bad news for West Virginia is that one of their starting offensive lineman suffered a knee injury in the Mountaineers’ spring game late last week.

The good news, though, is that the injury shouldn’t impact the left guard’s availability for the start of summer camp in a couple of months. Maybe.

In a press release issued by the school, WVU confirmed that an MRI revealed a sprained MCL and a strained Medial Retinaculum* in the left knee of Josh Jenkins Friday night. The initial prognosis is that the senior will be in a brace and rehabbing for a period of 6-8 weeks. At that point, the release reads, the WVU medical staff will decide if the patella is stable enough or if surgery is needed.

Jenkins has started 23 of the 28 games he’s played as a Mountaineer, including 10 last season and 13 in 2009.

(*for those who may have said “WTF???”, the school stated in the press release that the Medial Retinaculum “holds patella or kneecap medially so will not dislocate or sublux-jump laterally”. You’re welcome.)
