‘Zona streaker speaks; pulled stunt to get on ‘Wipeout’

Dontcha just miss college?

During Thursday night’s game between UCLA and Arizona, a fan came on to the field late in the second quarter dressed (somewhat) like a referee and tried to take the football from one of the actual game officials. When it became evident that Arizona senior Jace Lankow wasn’t a ref, he took off down the field and promptly began ripping off his clothes.

In an interview with KVOA, Lankow goes through step by step -- yes, people, this was thought out extensively -- how he formulated the idea and when to execute it, how he got on to the field and what his intentions were. His biggest regret? Not getting the football and scoring a touchdown in Arizona Stadium.

That regret might expand beyond the hoax, as Lankow could face a felony charge for Criminal Impersonation for presenting a fake all-access pass to stadium representatives. Lankow had previously worked as a volunteer at the stadium as a freshman and claimed he had “insider information” on how to get on to the field uninhibited.

Lankow also had another goal: padding his resume for applying as a contestant for the ABC show “Wipeout.” The application asks for the craziest thing the participant has ever done. Dressing up as a referee and streaking across the field might give Lankow an edge.

Here’s hoping he actually makes it on the show. Any prize money would immediately go toward his legal fees.
