Theo Wease caught his only target for 63 yards and a touchdown in the Dolphins’ Week 17 win over the Buccaneers.
Wease connected with fellow rookie Quinn Ewers for the first career touchdown of both of their careers. He got behind the Bucs secondary on busted coverage and took the pass to the endzone for a 63-yard score. The 24-year-old undrafted rookie free agent had just two catches heading into this game and now adds a touchdown to his pedigree. Wease seemingly has the boom-or-bust deep ball role in the Dolphins offense once occupied by healthy scratch Nick Westbrook-Ikhine.
  • MIA Running Back #20
Dolphins signed RB Jeff Wilson to their practice squad.
With Brian Robinson now in San Francisco, Wilson probably felt better about his chances of being elevated off Miami’s practice squad. The Dolphins also signed TE Greg Dulcich, CB BJ Adams, CB Cornell Armstrong, LB Quinton Bell, OL Braeden Daniels, WR AJ Henning, DT Alex Huntley, LB Derrick McLendon, K Riley Patterson, OL Josh Priebe, TE Hayden Rucci, S John Saunders Jr., TE Theo Wease Jr., S Jordan Colbert to their practice squad.
  • MIA Wide Receiver #10
Dolphins signed Missouri WR Theo Wease.
Wease (6’3/200) is a sixth-year prospect who spent four seasons at Oklahoma before transferring to Mizzou in 2023. He appeared in 63 games during his college career, but his production was often inconsistent. Wease surpassed 600 receiving yards just twice, and was seldom viewed as anything more than a serviceable WR2 wherever he played. Wease was never a target dominator, and has a career TPRR of 0.205, though some of this can be attributed to the fact that he played alongside productive college talents like Marvin Mims and Luther Burden. Wease has the ideal size to play on the outside, which is where he lined up on 87.8 percent of his career snaps, per PFF. To his credit, Wease saved his best performance for last, totaling 60 receptions for 884 yards and four touchdowns in 2024, leading all Missouri pass catchers in receiving yards. He makes up for his subpar athleticism (4.27 RAS) with his ability to win contested catches (56.3 contested catch rate 2023-2024), but Wease will need an impressive training camp if he hopes to stick on a 53-man roster. He’s a prime candidate to start his career on the practice squad.
  • MIA Wide Receiver #81
Oklahoma redshirt sophomore WR Theo Wease (foot) returned to practice.
Wease (6'2/200) entered the transfer portal the day after Lincoln Riley left for USC, but pulled his name out shortly thereafter when Oklahoma HC Will Venables brought in former Ole Miss OC, Jeff Lebby, to run the offense. “The turning point I would definitely say was Coach Lebby, just his philosophy and how real he made me feel,” Wease said. “It was just a family-like feel I got from him.” The former five-star talent will have Dillon Gabriel throwing balls to him out of the slot with Marvin Mims stretching the sideline.

  • MIA Wide Receiver #81
Oklahoma sophomore WR Theo Wease takes his name out of the transfer portal.
This is big news for Brent Venables and the Sooners. They have seen their four top pass catchers all hit the transfer portal with Jadon Haselwood and Austin Stogner finding new homes in the SEC. Being able to keep Wease (6'2/200) will be huge for new offensive coordinator Jeff Leddy as he gets settled in. Wease should be a major factor in Leddy’s offense which relies on RPO’s, screens, and deep concepts.

  • MIA Wide Receiver #81
Oklahoma sophomore WR Theo Wease (leg) was a participant in warmups ahead of Saturday’s game against Iowa State.
Wease (6'2/200) being dressed out and going through warmups is a positive development for the Sooners, who are expected to be without Drake Stoops. After starting all 11 games last season, Wease has yet to appear in a game season due to the leg injury that he suffered in a September practice. The sophomore caught 37 passes for 530 yards and four touchdowns in 2020.

  • MIA Wide Receiver #81
Oklahoma sophomore WR Theo Wease (leg) is still not fully participating in practice and is unlikely to play this week against Baylor.
Wease (6'2/200) sustained the leg injury in practice back in early September and has been gradually trying to return to the field. Though he is making progress, when HC Lincoln Riley was asked about Wease’s availability for Baylor, he expressed skepticism saying “Too early to say... probably a bit of a reach right now.” His return would be a welcomed boost to a rejuvenated Oklahoma offense under freshman starting QB Caleb Williams, as Wease caught 37 passes for 530 yards and four touchdowns last year.

  • MIA Wide Receiver #81
Oklahoma sophomore WR Theo Wease (leg) is expected to make his return at some point this season according to HC Lincoln Riley.
Wease (6'2/200) sustained the leg injury in Week 1 against Tulane and was expected to miss several weeks. The exact phrasing used by HC Lincoln Riley is that he expects him to return “sometime this year.” Though that timeframe doesn’t exactly crystalize when he will be available, it’s at least confirmation that the sophomore wideout will return in 2021. Wease, who missed the spring game due to a leg injury, caught 37 passes for 530 yards and four touchdowns last season.

  • MIA Wide Receiver #81
Oklahoma sophomore WR Theo Wease is expected to miss a “few weeks” after suffering a lower leg injury in a recent practice.
Just how much time Wease (6'2/200) will miss remains unknown, as the wide receiver still has to undergo MRI and X-ray scans. According to All Sooners, the expectation is that he’ll miss at least a “few weeks,” so Wease won’t be available when Oklahoma takes on Tulane Saturday afternoon. Wease, who missed the spring game due to a leg injury, caught 37 passes for 530 yards and four touchdowns last season.

  • MIA Wide Receiver #81
Oklahoma sophomore WR Theo Wease caught five passes for 66 yards and a touchdown in a 27-14 win on Saturday over Baylor.
Wease brought in a touchdown throw from Spencer Rattler in the third from nine yards away to give the Sooners a 17-0 lead. That’s the third touchdown of the season for the former five-star recruit, and all of them have come in the last two games. Wease (6'3/192) has NFL potential, and has shown in the last couple of games. Wease should be involved again next Saturday against West Virginia.
