Roland

The former Georgia star fell back into a swing-tackle role last season after being exposed in pass protection across 24 starts in 2009-10.

Roland served as Cincinnati’s No. 2 right tackle last season, behind Andre Smith, with Anthony Collins backing up LT Andrew Whitworth. Roland made two starts and struggled mightily. He’ll have to earn a roster spot in training camp.

Roland was released by Cincy at final cuts and then re-signed just before Week 1. Now he’s gone again so they can make room for S Chris Crocker.

Roland was among the Bengals’ final cuts, but will provide depth with Andrew Whitworth (knee) “extremely cloudy” for Week 1. He served as Cincinnati’s No. 2 right tackle last season. Anthony Collins will start against the Bears on Sunday if Whitworth is ruled out.

Heinrich will be Tampa’s third tight end Sunday.

Smith has only done individual drills and rehab work since breaking his foot before Week 1. It’s unlikely he’ll be up to speed by Sunday, meaning his debut could come in Week 9, after the team’s bye. Anthony Collins lost the starting right tackle job to Dennis Roland in the Week 6 loss to Houston.

Roland gets the boot to make room for TE Nate Lawrie. The former Georgia Bulldog was signed by the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent in 2006.

Darby wasn’t needed with vets Warrick Dunn and Michael Bennett backing up Earnest Graham. Rookie Dexter Jackson’s explosive return ability made Spurlock expendable.

Cincinnati’s line is such a mess that Ryan Fitzpatrick is an injury risk in Week 12. Roland was barely keeping a practice squad spot earlier in the season.

Livings, 28, is the lone first-team player here. He’s made 15 starts over the past two seasons, performing admirably. Roland is a tight end in the Bengals’ jumbo package and a solid backup right tackle. He’ll be supplanted by Andre Smith this year. Hebert is a gunner. Palmer is Carson’s little brother.
