Drew Gagnon has re-signed with the Wei Chuan Dragons of the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
Gagnon missed nearly three months due to elbow discomfort last year, but managed to post a solid 3.93 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 94 innings (18 appearances, 14 starts). The 31-year-old righty last appeared in the majors with the Mets back in 2019.

    Mets released RHP Drew Gagnon.

Mets designated RHP Drew Gagnon for assignment.
Gagnon apparently has a deal in the works with a team in South Korea. The 29-year-old right-hander posted a rough 8.37 ERA, 1.73 WHIP, and 17/7 K/BB ratio over 23 2/3 innings at the major league level in 2019.

According to Naver Sports in South Korea, the Mets and Drew Gagnon are working on a deal that would free him up to move to the KBO.
Gagnon surrendered 26 runs -- 22 earned -- over 23 2/3 innings of relief at the major league level in 2019. He gave up a whopping 11 home runs in just 18 appearances. The 29-year-old right-hander would probably fare a little better in the Korea Baseball Organization, performance-wise and even financially.

Mets optioned RHP Drew Gagnon to Triple-A Syracuse.
Gagnon has allowed 18 runs -- 17 earned -- in 20 innings of relief this season for an ERA of 7.65. Stephen Nogosek and Daniel Zamora have been called up to fill the two vacant spots in the Mets’ bullpen.

Drew Gagnon is no longer starting for the Mets on Monday night versus the Nationals.
Wilmer Font is going to get another turn in the rotation instead, despite owning a 9.95 ERA in 6 1/3 innings (two starts) with New York. Drew Gagnon could follow Font in Monday’s game and then possibly slide into his rotation spot this weekend. It’s all up in the air at the moment.

Drew Gagnon is expected to start for the Mets on Monday night against the Nationals.
Gagnon has worked strictly as a reliever this season at the major league level and hasn’t thrown more than 26 pitches in an outing since the calendar flipped to May, so he’s probably not going to last very long versus Washington. But if the abbreviated start goes well, he could potentially get more turns in the Mets’ rotation moving forward. The 28-year-old right-hander owns a 4.09 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 9/1 K/BB ratio in 11 innings this year.

Mets manager Mickey Callaway mentioned Drew Gagnon as an option to fill Wilmer Font’s spot in the rotation.
Jason Vargas (hamstring) is just about ready to return from the injured list, but he’ll first make a rehab start at Double-A Binghamton on Sunday, and so the Mets need a fifth starter. Font was lit up for five earned runs over just 2 1/3 innings in a loss to the Nationals on Wednesday. Gagnon, 28, holds a 4.09 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 9/1 K/BB ratio in 11 innings of relief this season with New York.
