Fresh off the reveal of the MLB The Show 22 cover athlete (Shohei Ohtani) we thought we’d dish out a reveal of our own. While we’re still waiting to see where key free agents like Carlos Correa and Freddie Freeman land, we’re eager to get a jump on fantasy baseball and showcase who our NBC Sports EDGE writers took in the latest mock draft.
Any manager knows just how valuable industry mock drafts can be. They provide a sense of where players might be taken and who could rise up or fall down the board. They also give an insight into how players are currently valued. Our goal is to give you the tools to help you prepare as much as possible for 2022 fantasy drafts. Whether you land the No. 1 overall pick or the last pick in your league, our MLB Draft Guide can assist your fantasy championship quest from day one to Game 162.
Today we’ll be highlighting Rounds 1 and 3 from our latest mock draft, including which players land with which managers and a summary from those two rounds. You can see the entire mock draft and 2022 MLB Draft Guide with the NBC Sports EDGE+ package. EDGE+ is complete with content constructed to provide the knowledge you need to make the perfect draft decisions in a variety of league formats — from projections, tiers, rankings, sleepers and busts to exclusive expert columns — we’re constantly trying to make every draft guide edition better than the last one.

2022 NBC Sports EDGE Mock Draft (Jan. 25)
(Yahoo standard 5x5 categories league format)
ROUND 1
1.01 -- Trea Turner, SS/2B | Dodgers
1.02 -- Fernando Tatis, SS/OF | Padres
1.03 -- Juan Soto, OF | Nationals
1.04 -- Vladimir Guerrero, 1B | Blue Jays
1.05 -- José Ramírez, 3B | Guardians
1.06 -- Bo Bichette, SS | Blue Jays
1.07 -- Mike Trout, OF | Angels
1.08 -- Ronald Acuña, OF | Braves
1.09 -- Corbin Burnes, SP | Brewers
1.10 -- Gerrit Cole, SP | Yankees
1.11 -- Bryce Harper, OF | Phillies
1.12 -- Walker Buehler, SP | Dodgers
Round Analysis: Turner isn’t necessarily going to be the consensus No. 1 overall pick in every draft this spring, but he will probably go there more often than the other worthy candidates after registering a .328 batting average, .911 OPS, 28 homers, 77 RBI, 32 steals and 107 runs in 148 games last season between the Nationals and Dodgers. That is full five-category coverage, from a 28-year-old freak athlete who is eligible to be slotted in at either shortstop or second base. Tatis has a similar skillset, and it helps that he added outfield eligibility last summer, but durability issues continue to cloud his ceiling
ROUND 3
3.25 -- Freddie Freeman, 1B | Free Agent
3.26 -- Robbie Ray, SP| Mariners
3.27 -- Marcus Semien, 2B/SS | Rangers
3.28 -- Starling Marte, OF | Mets
3.29 -- Shane Bieber, SP | Guardians
3.30 -- Sandy Alcantara, SP | Marlins
3.31 -- Cedric Mullins, OF | Orioles
3.32 -- Tim Anderson, SS | White Sox
3.33 -- Trevor Story, SS | Free Agent
3.34 -- Teoscar Hernández, OF | Blue Jays
3.35 -- Aaron Judge, OF | Yankees
3.36 -- Julio Urías, SP | Dodgers
Round Analysis: It’s been a while since any Orioles player went within the top-35 picks of a fantasy draft, but Mullins certainly seems deserving of that lofty perch. The dynamic 27-year-old slashed .291/.360/.518 with 30 home runs and 30 stolen bases over 159 games in 2021, becoming the 43rd player in MLB history to join the 30-30 club. Story had yet to sign with a team at press time, and his home/road splits could be a concern if (when) he does not land back at Coors Field. Freeman also remained unsigned, but the standing expectation was that he would not depart Atlanta.
