After falling barely shy of 30-homer and 100-RBI seasons the last two years, it doesn’t look like Olson intends to leave anything to chance this season. He’s already racked up 12 homers and 32 RBI in 36 games and is on the short list of NL MVP candidates to date.
  • CWS 3rd Baseman #5
Of course he did. Murakami also didn’t strike out, which is nice to see from a player who has already whiffed 50 times. It’s tough to be mad at that strikeout total when you’re hitting the ball over the fence as often as he is, and he took José Soriano deep for his 14th homer of the campaign. There are going to be moments where Murakami’s swing-and-miss makes him a borderline unplayable option, but he’s at the very least proven that power he showed in Japan can certainly play at this level. This has been very impressive. Obvious point is obvious.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #72
McDonald pounded the strike zone; landing 60-of-81 pitches while allowing only two hits. The 25-year-old was just recalled Monday for the series-opener, and he generated 10 swings and misses while allowing a respectable seven hard-hit balls in the process. McDonald impressed in his MLB time last year, as well, but there’s no word yet as to when — or if — he’ll get another turn in the rotation.
  • MIL Center Fielder #11
Chourio also walked. It was the first game of the season for Chourio after missing six weeks to begin the year due to a hand fracture, and outside of the fact that the Brewers didn’t win, it couldn’t have gone much better. Two of the hits were doubles, and both of those extra-base hits were clocked above 108 mph in exit velocity. Chourio probably won’t hit 1.000 on the year, but the 22-year-old offers enormous upside in his right-handed bat, and more games like this are likely.
  • BOS Left Fielder #19
Tracy added that Anthony is heading back to Boston to undergo further evaluation with a hand specialist out of an abundance of caution, which means he’s going to miss at least a couple games, even if he manages to avoid a trip to the injured list. The 21-year-old rising star left Monday’s game against the Tigers with right wrist discomfort following an awkward swing in his first at-bat. It’s obviously a positive initial update, but fantasy managers should have some additional clarity later this week.
  • PHI 1st Baseman #3
Harper connected on a third-inning sweeper from Marlins starter Janson Junk, launching a majestic 393-foot blast into the right-center field seats for his seventh round-tripper of the season. It was his first time leaving the yard since April 24.
  • CWS 2nd Baseman
Antonacci finds himself in the leadoff spot for the second time since being called up back on April 15. The 23-year-old rookie’s contact-oriented approach seems tailor-made for a top-of-the-order role moving forward. He’s slashing an impressive .255/.361/.431 with one homer and nearly as many walks (five) as strikeouts (six) through 17 games. The move to the top of the order behind Chicago’s biggest run-producing threats is a significant lift to his fantasy appeal.
  • HOU Catcher #21
It’s a bit unclear whether Diaz will require a trip to the injured list, but the fact that the Astros have brought up César Salazar from the minors seems to indicate that he’s not going to be available off the bench, even in an emergency. There should be an update on his status following the contest. It’ll be Christian Vázquez handling the catching duties in his absence.
  • SF 1st Baseman #8
It’s official. Eldridge is at DH and hitting seventh in his season debut against the division-rival Padres on Monday night at Oracle Park. The power-hitting 21-year-old top prospect struggled in his first taste of the big leagues last year, but he’s one of the most intriguing potential middle-of-the-order impact hitters to come through the minors in a few years. He’ll need to prove he can make enough contact and get to his immense raw power frequently enough to matter for fantasy purposes. He’s more of a deep-league lottery ticket at the moment, but he’s the type of elite talent that could make a leap very quickly if everything comes together for him.
  • BAL 3rd Baseman #11
Not good. It’s an extremely concerning development after Westburg opted to go the rest and rehabilitation route instead of undergoing Tommy John surgery. The 27-year-old infielder will be shut down temporarily following this latest setback before being reevaluated to determine his next steps. The big issue here is that season-ending surgery could become unavoidable if he’s unable to resume throwing without discomfort.
