In 2020-21 four different players finished with four goals in a single game. The NHL already replicated that in just the first two months of this season. Filip Forsberg scored four goals last night, joining Tyler Bertuzzi, Patrice Bergeron, and Brock Nelson as one of the four players to achieve that impressive feat this season. In Forsberg’s case, his efforts fueled the Predators to a 6-0 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets.
He’s only played in 13 games this season due to an upper-body injury, but he’s been incredible when healthy, providing 10 goals and 15 points. While he’s not going to maintain that pace, it’s entirely plausible for him to reach the 30-goal milestone before the end of the campaign, provided he is fortunate enough to avoid any more significant injuries. Combine him with Matt Duchene, Mikael Granlund, and Ryan Johansen, who are enjoying resurgent seasons, and the Predators have a solid offensive core.

DETROIT 2 BOSTON 1
Marc Staal scored the game-winning goal. It was his first marker and fourth point in 20 contests.
Detroit’s other goal was contributed by Filip Zadina. He has four goals and eight points in 23 games.
Alex Nedeljkovic stopped 41 of 42 Bruins shots. He faced 17 shots in each of the second and third periods.
By contrast, Linus Ullmark only faced 16 shots in the entire game, but he still allowed two goals. He’s 5-4-0 with a 2.68 GAA and .911 save percentage in nine starts.
David Pastrnak netted the Bruins’ only goal. He has eight goals and 19 points in 19 contests.
FLORIDA 5 WASHINGTON 4
The Capitals had a 4-1 edge through 40 minutes. Nick Jensen made significant contributions to Washington’s cause with a goal and an assist.
Florida managed to rally in the third period though with Sam Reinhart completing the comeback at 19:45 of the final frame. It was his fifth goal and 13th point in 22 games.
Jonathan Huberdeau and Aaron Ekblad each assisted on three of Florida’s goals. For Ekblad, that’s led to him reaching the 20-point milestone in just 22 contests.
Although Ilya Samsonov couldn’t hold on for the win, it’s hard to blame the Capitals’ loss entirely on their goaltending. After all, Samsonov faced a staggering 51 shots on Tuesday, including 27(!) shots in the third period. In fact, Florida outshot Washington 27-2 in the third period, so under those conditions, it’s not surprising that the Capitals’ lead didn’t hold up.
Meanwhile, Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 23 of 27 Capitals shots. He got the win, but he’s also allowed at least three goals in three of his last four starts.
SAN JOSE 5 NEW JERSEY 2
Timo Meier scored two goals, including the game winner. That gives him 11 goals and 22 points in 17 contests.
Noah Gregor contributed a goal and an assist for the Sharks. He has a goal and three points in six games.
James Reimer saved 32 of 34 shots last night. He improved to 8-4-1 with a 2.11 GAA and .934 save percentage in 14 games.
San Jose had a 4-0 edge going into the third period. Tomas Tatar got the Devils on the board at 9:12 of the final frame to spark a comeback attempt that ultimately fell short. Tatar has four goals and 10 points in 20 contests.
Mackenzie Blackwood stopped 26 of 30 Sharks shots. Most of the damage was done in the second period when he was beaten three times on 16 shots.
ST. LOUIS 4 TAMPA BAY 3 (SO)
Brian Elliott stopped 30 of 33 shots in regulation time. He was beaten once in three shootout rounds, which in this case was enough to cost him the win.
Jordan Binnington matched Elliott with 30 saves on 33 shots prior to the skills competition. The difference last night was that Binnington was perfect in the shootout and thus got the extra point.
Ryan O’Reilly scored the lone shootout goal. He also found the back of the net in the second period, giving him four goals and 11 points in 18 games.
Ivan Barbashev also scored a goal for the Blues. He has eight goals and 14 points in 22 contests.
Anthony Cirelli chipped in a goal and an assist for Tampa Bay. He’s up to seven goals and 14 points in 21 games.

NASHVILLE 6 COLUMBUS 0
The Predators didn’t end up needing perfection out of Juuse Saros last night, but he provided it anyways. With 27 saves, he earned his first shutout of the season and the 15th of his career.
Even with the shutout though, Saros was outshined by Filip Forsberg’s four-goal game. Forsberg had a hat trick by 15:26 of the second period and he added the fourth goal during a power-play in the dying seconds of the frame. That gives him 10 goals and 15 points in 13 contests.
Mikael Granlund assisted on all four of Forsberg’s goals. Granlund has five goals and 25 points in 22 games.
Elvis Merzlikins got the start, but he was pulled after allowing three goals on nine shots through just 12:52 minutes. Joonas Korpisalo stepped in but surrendered a further three goals on 28 shots over the rest of the contest.
Zach Werenski had a team-high six shots for Columbus. He has five goals on 68 shots this season for a 7.4% success rate.
MINNESOTA 5 ARIZONA 2
Jordan Greenway led the Wild with a goal and two assists. That gives him a goal and six points in 18 contests.
Kirill Kaprizov scored a goal and an assist for Minnesota. He’s up to seven goals and 25 points in 22 games.
Kaapo Kahkonen stopped 29 of 31 Coyotes shots. He improved to 3-1-1 with a 3.04 GAA and .885 save percentage in five starts.
At the other end of the ice, Scott Wedgewood kicked out 32 of 37 shots. He’s allowed at least three goals in each of his last three games.
Clayton Keller scored a goal and registered an assist for the Coyotes. He has six goals and 15 points in 23 contests.
DALLAS 4 CAROLINA 1
Roope Hintz was the hero for Dallas with a hat trick. That gives him 10 goals and 15 points in 20 contests.
Dallas also got plenty of help from Joe Pavelski, who scored a goal and registered two assists. It was his third straight multi-point game.
Braden Holtby saved 39 of 40 shots last night. He’s 4-4-1 with a 2.30 GAA and .927 save percentage in 11 games.
The Hurricanes’ lone goal was scored by Jesperi Kotkaniemi. It was his sixth goal and eight points in 21 games.
Frederik Andersen stopped just 13 of 16 Stars shots. He never faced more than seven shots in a single period but still gave up a goal in every frame.
ANAHEIM 5 LOS ANGELES 4 (SO)
John Gibson saved 30 of 34 shots before the shootout. He allowed a goal in three shootout rounds, which was good enough for the extra point in this case.
Jonathan Quick turned aside 32 of 36 shots in regulation time. He fell short of the way by allowing two goals in three shootout rounds.
Alex Iafallo scored a pair of goals for the Kings. That gives him eight goals and 15 points in 21 games.
Anaheim’s Kevin Shattenkirk scored a goal and registered an assist. He’s up to five goals and 16 points in 23 contests.
Troy Terry also found the back of the net for Anaheim. It was his 14th goal and 24th point in 22 games.
