Former NCAA champ Aaron Wise can now add PGA Tour Rookie of the Year to his credentials.
Wise was the only rookie to make the 30-man Tour Championship last month at East Lake, thanks in large part to his victory at the AT&T Byron Nelson in May. On Tuesday the Tour announced that he was named top rookie for 2018, beating out a field that included Austin Cook, Satoshi Kodaira, Joaquin Niemann and Keith Mitchell.
In addition to Wise’s breakthrough victory at Trinity Forest, his season also included a runner-up finish at the Wells Fargo Championship and a T-5 finish in The Northern Trust.
Wise won both the individual and team national title in 2016 during his senior season at Oregon. The 22-year-old joins Mackenzie Hughes as the only players to win events on the Mackenzie Tour, Web.com Tour and PGA Tour.
A resident of Las Vegas, Wise has a home game this week at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open where he will join a field that includes Jordan Spieth, Rickie Fowler, Bryson DeChambeau and Tony Finau.
Recent Rookie of the Year recipients include Fowler (2010), Spieth (2013), Daniel Berger (2015) and Xander Schauffele (2017).
