The Social: Hair today, gone tomorrow

Thumbnail

Jordan Spieth meets the Godfather, Father Time looks like it’s catching up with Tiger Woods and Grayson Murray landed himself a hot date for the Masters, now he’s just got to get there. All that and more in this edition of The Social.

Woods made the media rounds on Monday to promote his new book about the 1997 Masters, appearing on both ABC’s “Good Morning America” and ESPN’s “Sportscenter.” And while we were treated to a vintage fist pump after Tiger beat Michael Strahan in a putting contest, it was a different vintage look that set social media on fire – the lack of hair on top of the 14-time major winner’s head.

And Twitter, as it always does, had jokes. This is why we can’t have nice things, Twitter.

Of course, Woods isn’t a huge social media guy, so it’s possible he missed out on the roast session entirely, that is, until ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt just said what everyone was thinking right to his face.

Guys, this is a very special occasion. The Godfather himself has decided to grace us with his presence. This is his damn house. He sleeps 20 feet away.

OK, maybe not that last part, but the immortal words of Bernard “Beanie” Campbell ring as true today as they did 14 years ago. Why was Luke Wilson at the WGC-Match Play draw on Monday? Maybe it’s because he’s got business ventures in Austin. Or maybe he is still looking for true love. It is hard to find after all.

But whatever the reason he was probably really glad and proud to be there. And hopefully Frank’s dad made it out, too.

The golf gods can only give so much before they start to resent you. Adam Hadwin found that out the hard way on the 17th hole Sunday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, hitting what should have been a hole-in-one. Instead, this happened:

That’s. Not. Fair. #QuickHits pic.twitter.com/0B26VbBttW — PGA TOUR (@PGATOUR) March 19, 2017

Hadwin kept his sense of humor about him (a win and a 59 on the year will do that to you).

And … cut to a live shot of Hadwin sulking in the corner cause he had to settle for a regular ol’ birdie:

Oh, that’s right, he’s getting married this week. Something tells me these two are gonna be alright.

A live-action reboot of Foghorn Leghorn? Is nothing sacred anymore?

Wayne Gretzky once famously said, “You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t take.”

I’m pretty sure this is exactly what he was talking about.

PGA Tour rookie Grayson Murray asked model Lindsey Pelas on Twitter Monday to be his Masters Par 3 Contest caddie should he qualify for the tournament.

She said yes, because, who says no to that? But making it into the field will be tough for Murray. His only chance is to win the Shell Houston Open next week, a tall task for anyone, let alone someone who has made just four cuts in 11 tries this season and missed five in a row.

Should he pull it off, he will be rewarded with her caddieing services for nine holes at Augusta National. If he doesn’t, it wouldn’t be a total shock to see someone else in the field slide up in them DMs.

After 18 consecutive missed cuts, Matt Every made the cut and tied for 62nd last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Was it playing at Bay Hill, where he’s won twice before that broke him out of his slump? Or perhaps it was the fact that he went on the No Laying Up podcast?

Steven Bowditch, who’s mirred in a slump of his own, is buying the latter, firing off this hilarious tweet after shooting 79-79 to miss his 11th cut in 12 starts this year.

Simple answers for a simple game.
