Ryder Cup Should Give Us

What’s a given is that the Europeans will out dress the Americans. They always do. What’s a given is that Colin Montgomerie will out talk Corey Pavin. Monty in the mood can really talk. What’s a given is that Wales won’t feel like San Diego. Wales in October can be damp and dark.

Those are givens. Here’s what else we’d like the Ryder Cup to give us:

Give us the brothers Bash, Bubba Watson and Dustin Johnson, against the brothers Molinari.

Give us a smiling Matt Kuchar against a snarling Ian Poulter in a match that means something.

Give us even a minor American altercation with vice captain Sergio Garcia, just to spice it up.

Give us Rickie Fowler and Bubba against Rory McIlroy and Miguel Angel Jimenez in a better-ball hair pair.

Give us Dustin, Phil Mickelson and their coach, Butch Harmon, against Graeme McDowell, Lee Westwood and their underrated coach, Pete Cowen. Or Tiger Woods, Hunter Mahan and their coach, Sean Foley, against Pete and his boys.

Give us California cool against Irish mettle, Mahan and Fowler against McIlroy and Graeme McDowell.

Give us Fowler and Poulter in a Sunday swinging singles fashion showdown.

Give us Tiger and Steve Stricker against Westwood and Martin Kaymer in a powerhouse four-ball.

Give us Euro fans chanting ‘Ole, ole, ole, ole’ and the U.S. making some putts to silence the song.

Give us Tiger and Rickie against Rory and Padraig Harrington in a television bonanza.

Give us a Monty moment or two, just to spice it up.

Give us Tiger and Rory in Sunday singles with everything riding.

Is that too much too ask?
