Driver Elected to Second Term as President

FAR HILLS, N.J. -- The United States Golf Association announced Saturday that Walter Driver has been selected as the organization’s president for a second term.

The election of Driver, as well as the officers and the full 15-member USGA Executive Committee, took place at the USGA’s annual meeting in San Francisco.

Driver, 61, is Chairman-Southeast of Goldman, Sachs and Co., a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm. He began his time at the USGA as general counsel to the Executive Committee in 1997 and named to the committee in 1999. Driver spent two years as the USGA’s treasurer and four as the vice president.

He graduated from Stanford University and the University of Texas Law School. Driver replaced Fred Ridley when elected for the first time last year.

The officers of the Executive Committee who were elected include James B. Hyler and James F. Vernon as vice presidents; Emily R. (Missy) Crisp as secretary and Fredric C. Nelson as treasurer.

There are seven returning members to the Executive Committee: James T. Bunch, Irving Fish, William M. Lewis Jr., Pat McKinney, Cameron Jay Rains, Loren Singletary and Steve Smyers.

Three new members of the committee were named as well in Christie Austin, John Kim and Geoffrey Yang.
