FORT WORTH, Texas – Carl Pettersson had just completed his breakfast deep within the confines of the Colonial clubhouse early Tuesday when a large television to his right flashed the news everyone had been waiting to hear.
But if the Swede was astonished or angered by the news the USGA and R&A would ban anchoring, he didn’t show it. Instead he collected himself and headed for the practice tee to prepare for this week’s Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial.

When asked to comment on the news Pettersson politely declined but added, “Give me a few days.”
Pettersson is one of the higher-profile players who anchor on the PGA Tour and he finished 2012 ranked 21st in strokes gained-putting. That doesn’t mean, however, he can’t putt with a conventional-length putter.
“I saw Carl (on Monday) stroking it with a short putter,” Steve Flesch said. “He looked great.”
