Bills waived RB James Wilder Jr., WR Kain Colter, and OT Chris Martin.
Wilder average 2.4 YPC on 22 totes this preseason. He’s running out of chances.
  • FA Running Back #38
The Bengals’ website passes along “talk” that second-year RB James Wilder Jr. could be tried at fullback this offseason.
Wilder stands 6-foot-3, 232. He doesn’t have much of a chance to earn tailback snaps at Cincinnati, so lead blocking could be a means of Wilder making the final 53. He spent all of last season on the Bengals’ practice squad.
  • FA Running Back #38
Bengals signed Florida State RB James Wilder Jr.
Wilder (6-foot-3, 232) is built like a basketball wing defender and runs like it with an unorthodox, upright style that contributed to an incredibly injury-plagued college career. His draft stock was torpedoed with a 4.86 forty time at the Combine. Wilder finished his three-year stay at FSU with 1,358 yards and 20 touchdowns on 226 carries (6.01 YPC). He had 25 catches. While Wilder was a productive college player, his skill set is highly unlikely to result in a productive NFL career. He will struggle to find snaps in Cincinnati’s crowded backfield.
  • FA Running Back #38
Bengals signed RBs James Wilder Jr. and Terrell Watson to the practice squad.
The Bengals’ running back corps was too deep to crack this summer. Wilder or Watson will get the 53-man call if injury befalls Jeremy Hill, Giovani Bernard, Rex Burkhead or Cedric Peerman.
  • FA Running Back #38
Bengals waived/released RB James Wilder Jr., CB Brandon Ghee, S Keo Shiloh, WR Michael Bennett, OT Dan France, OT Tanner Hawkinson, CB Troy Hill, OG Trey Hopkins, WR Jake Kumerow, TE Matt Lengel, OT Matthew O’Donnell, K Tom Obarski, S Floyd Raven, LB Trevor Roach, C Jake Smith, RB Terrell Watson, QB Keith Wenning and DT DeShawn Williams.
Wilder had a solid preseason, but couldn’t crack the Bengals’ deep running back corps. He’s likely headed to the practice squad.
  • FA Running Back #38
The Bengals have been working on RB James Wilder Jr.'s running technique.
Wilder ran extremely upright at Florida State, leading to multiple injuries. At a gargantuan 6-foot-3 and 232 pounds, it’s hard to blame him for running so tall. He’s not built like your normal running back. A 2014 practice squadder, Wilder would only come into the picture if Jeremy Hill went down.
  • FA Running Back #38
Bills signed RB James Wilder Jr. to a reserve/future contract.
Wilder Jr. (6'3/232) was signed as a priority UDFA out of Florida State by the Bengals after the 2014 draft and spent the past two years on their practice squad. He couldn’t crack the deep running back depth chart despite rushing for 107 yards and two TDs on 4.3 YPC in the 2015 preseason.
  • FA Running Back #38
Bengals signed RB James Wilder Jr. to their practice squad.
He’ll be Cincinnati’s fifth tailback option behind Giovani Bernard, Jeremy Hill, Cedric Peerman, and Rex Burkhead. Built in the style of ex-Titan/Oiler Eddie George, Wilder stands 6-foot-3, 232. An upright running approach led to frequent injuries for Wilder at Florida State, but he’s got some ability.
  • FA Running Back #38
Bengals waived/released RB James Wilder Jr., TE Orson Charles, OT Dan France, WR Cobi Hamilton, DT David King, WR Colin Lockett, CB Onterio McCalebb, DE Dontay Moch, DE Sam Montgomery, C Trevor Robinson and FB Nikita Whitlock.
Wilder had a nice night in the Bengals’ preseason finale, but also missed time with injury. A gargantuan 6-foot-3, 232 pounds, he’ll be a candidate for the practice squad.
