Raiders agreed to terms with Greg Spires.
The Bucs-Raiders pipeline continues to go both ways. Spires could be of use to Oakland as a reserve, but he’s no lock to make the roster after missing six games last year. He’ll compete with DEs Jay Richardson and Kalimba Edwards.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
Raiders DL Tommy Kelly has been moved to right defensive end.
It looks like he’ll start there to begin the season, ahead of Kevin Huntley and rookies Quentin Moses and Jay Richardson. Kelly, who defensive line coach Keith Millard compares to Trevor Pryce, will kick inside on passing downs.
  • FA Defensive Lineman
The Raiders believe that DE Tommy Kelly’s knee injury is serious.
Kelly, who’s arguably been Oakland’s best defensive lineman this year, was on crutches in the locker room after Sunday’s game. His status will be updated later in the week. Rookie Jay Richardson is his backup at right end.
  • PIT Defensive Lineman
Kevin Huntley is penciled in as the Raiders’ starting right defensive end.
Oakland would rather see Jay Richardson or Quentin Moses claim the gig, but the 6-7 Huntley has terrific size and could be a force against the run. Incumbent starter Tyler Brayton will probably be a swing tackle-end this year.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #56
Raiders DE Jay Richardson is sitting out voluntary practices with a knee injury.
This has gotten Trevor Scott more reps at right end and potentially the starting position. Richardson looks the part at 6'6/280, but his production has not matched his potential. He has just four sacks in his first two seasons.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #56
Jay Richardson is currently working as Oakland’s starting right defensive end.
Kalimba Edwards is the nickel rusher. If Richardson holds onto the job, he’d be a nice IDP sleeper in deep leagues, but not a double-digit sack threat.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #56
Raiders DE Jay Richardson will see a specialist Monday about his troublesome knee.
The underwhelming pass rusher has been out for the past week. He’s been passed by impressive rookie Lamarr Houston on the depth chart anyway.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #56
Raiders DE Jay Richardson will miss the rest of the preseason after undergoing surgery Tuesday on his left knee.
Richardson’s knee has been problematic since May OTAs. A former fifth-round pick and onetime starter, Richardson has plummeted down the depth chart after the Raiders’ last two drafts. He’d be lucky to make the final 53.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #56
Raiders released DE Jay Richardson with an injury settlement.
Richardson never fully recovered from mid-August knee surgery, and may not be able to help anyone soon. When healthy, he can play defensive end and tackle. Richardson has extensive starting experience, mostly at end.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #56
Raiders placed DE Jay Richardson (knee) on injured reserve, ending his season.
The former starter was initially announced as waived, but he’ll sit on I.R. until the Raiders release him with a settlement. Richardson made 22 starts between 2007 and 2008. He had three sacks off the bench in ’09.
