“He came back, and he looks good,” said Pioli. Powe had weight problems at Ole Miss and played only seven snaps during his rookie season. He’ll compete for playing time with first-round pick Dontari Poe at nose tackle this year.

Powe is working behind Dontari Poe, Anthony Toribio, and Amon Gordon, while Washington has been behind Travis Daniels, Kyle McCarthy, and UDFA Terrance Parks even with both Eric Berry and De’Quan Menzie on the shelf. Washington was the 102nd pick in the 2009 draft. He and Powe look to be on the bubble.

Poe is behind former undrafted free agent Anthony Toribio and 2011 sixth-rounder Jerrell Powe. “The young Poe, he’s still learning, and he gave good effort,” coach Romeo Crennel said following the preseason opener. “He’s trying to learn to do the things the way we want them. He’s not there yet.”

And so ends the Powe-Poe nose tackle combo with Dontari Poe. Powe was a sixth-round pick in the 2011 draft. Anthony Toribio will back up Poe.

DT Kyle Love was waived in a corresponding roster move. Released at final cuts, Powe will provide depth behind Dontari Poe at nose tackle.

Powe was cut last week so the Chiefs could bring in Chad Hall. Now that Dexter McCluster (ankle) is healthy, Powe gets his roster spot back.

The 29-year-old didn’t play a single snap last season but appeared in all 16 games for the Texans in 2014. He’s competing for a depth job in Washington.

Powe hasn’t practiced since the start of training camp with a heart arrhythmia issue. He was expected to compete for a depth job, but the missed time puts his roster spot in doubt.

Powe suffered a scary heart arrhythmia issue early in camp, but he was able to get back on the field for the final preseason game. Powe has not played a regular season snap since making 16 appearances for the Texans in 2014.

28-year-old Powe has made four career starts as a well-traveled former sixth-round pick. He’ll try to win a backup job behind NT Terrance Knighton.
