Colts placed SS Melvin Bullitt on injured reserve with a right shoulder injury, ending his season.
The Colts started David Caldwell at strong safety in Week 3, but he rotated with rookie Joe Lefeged. Lefeged played more snaps, and both players finished with two tackles. Bullitt, 26, signed a new three-year contract just before training camp, but has performed poorly on the field and this right shoulder injury is recurring. The team may have to consider cutting ties next year.

Colts FS Tom Zbikowski (leg) will not play in Sunday’s game against the Titans.
It’s Zbikowski’s second straight game on the shelf. Joe Lefeged, who had five tackles last week, will fill in once again.
  • FA Defensive Back #36
    Colts waived S Joe Lefeged.
A part-time defensive back and special teamer, Lefeged had appeared in every game since the beginning of the 2011 season, but had played just 19 snaps on defense this year. He was last in the news after getting arrested on gun charges in June. Lefeged’s experience could earn him a look or two on waivers.
  • FA Defensive Back #36
Colts S Joe Lefeged says the gun charges against him are “drummed up.”
Lefeged was finally released from a Washington, D.C. jail Tuesday after being arrested on Saturday. Lefeged has been charged with carrying a firearm without a license, possessing an unregistered firearm and ammunition and possessing a firearm in a motor vehicle. A 2011 undrafted free agent, Lefeged has appeared in all 16 games each of the past two seasons.
  • FA Defensive Back #36
Jaguars signed S Joe Lefeged to a reserve/future contract.
Lefeged is now going by the name “Joe Young.” He appeared in all 32 games for the Colts from 2011-2012 as a special teams player and part-time defensive back before being cut after four games in 2013. Young was popped on gun charges back in June.
  • FA Defensive Back #36
Colts S Joe Lefeged was arrested overnight in Washington, D.C.
When contacted by the Indianapolis Star, a Colts spokesman said they have no information on Lefeged’s arrest. The Colts signed Lefeged as a undrafted free agent in 2011. He started five games last season, including the Wild Card loss to the Ravens. We’ll continue to update this situation as info becomes available.
  • FA Defensive Back #36
Updating an earlier story, Colts S Joe Lefeged was arrested for multiple gun-related offenses overnight in Washington, D.C., after fleeing police during a traffic stop.
Lefeged, 25, was in a vehicle with another man when police attempted to stop the vehicle. After an unspecified chase, the two were arrested, and a handgun was found in the vehicle. Lefeged is being arraigned this afternoon on various charges, including carrying a firearm without license, unregistered firearm, unregistered ammunition, and presence of a firearm in a motor vehicle.
  • FA Running Back #43
Colts waived RB/KR Devin Moore, S Chip Vaughn, QB Mike Hartline, WR Joe Horn, and OL Casey Bender.
Undrafted free agents Chad Spann and David Gilreath entered the exhibition season competing with Moore on kick returns, but impressive rookie Joe Lefeged may have since moved to the head of the pack. Vaughn was a penalty machine at safety. Hartline, Brian’s brother, starred at Kentucky the past few years.
  • FA Defensive Back #36
Rookie S Joe Lefeged is the front-runner for the Colts’ kickoff return job.
Undrafted out of Rutgers, Lefeged has also been rock solid as a reserve safety. He’s averaged 25.8 yards on four returns, maintaining an edge over WR David Gilreath (20.0) and RB Chad Spann (16.8). Gilreath appears to have punt-return duties locked up.
