Saints placed WR Nick Toon, RB Joe Banyard, S Jose Gumbs and CB Marquis Johnson on injured reserve, ending their seasons.
After an impressive offseason, Toon quickly fell behind Adrian Arrington, Joseph Morgan and Courtney Roby while dealing with a foot injury in training camp. Toon will have a shot at the No. 3 or 4 receiver role next season after red-shirting as a rookie.
  • FA Defensive Back #24
    Redskins waived SS DeJon Gomes.
Gomes appeared in 30 games over the last two years for the Skins, compiling 75 tackles and one interception. His inability to improve in coverage led to him losing out to Jordan Pugh and Jose Gumbs.
  • FA Defensive Back
Redskins re-signed exclusive rights free agent S Jose Gumbs to a one-year, $495,000 contract.
A 2012 undrafted free agent out of Monmouth (Miles Austin’s alma mater), Gumbs is a core special teams player but wound up seeing far too many snaps on defense in 2013, due to Washington’s abysmal safety play. Gumbs will be a solid bet to make the 53, but should be no higher than the team’s No. 3 safety.
  • FA Defensive Back
Redskins waived SS Jose Gumbs, DL Chris Davenport, TE Kevin Perry and QB Tommy Rees.
Gumbs appeared in eight games with Washington last year, making one start in place of a suspended Brandon Meriweather. The Redskins have signed free agents DE Frank Kearse, CB Courtney Bridget, S Ross Madison and CB Blake Sailors in corresponding moves.
