Purely a special teams ace, Stanford will be headed into his age-32 season. He’s missed just three games since 2016 and played over 300 snaps on special teams last year.

Stanford was atrocious when forced into duty on defense last year, but he has a role on special teams. He’ll compete for a backup job in training camp.

Stanford was signed as an undrafted rookie out of Wagner in May, and the Jags’ normal SLB Daryl Smith has missed the first six games of the season with a groin injury. Smith didn’t practice on Wednesday and doesn’t look set to return for Week 8 against the Packers. Kyle Bosworth has been starting in Smith’s place, but Stanford has been a special teams standout and his defensive snaps have increased each week.

A undrafted free agent in 2012, Stanford will compete with Geno Hayes for a starting job in training camp. The Florida Times-Union considers Stanford and LaRoy Reynolds strong candidates for the 53-man roster.

Stanford is taking the roster spot of LB Travis Lewis, who was handed a four-game PED ban on Tuesday. Stanford appeared in all 16 games for the Jaguars last season, making six starts. He’ll contribute on special teams in Detroit.

Stanford appeared in nine games (three starts) this year. He should be back as 2017 depth.

Stanford logged 233 underwhelming snaps for the Jets last season. The 26-year-old has been with four teams since entering the league as an undrafted free agent in 2012.

Stanford was released by the Jets on Friday, which also happened to be his wedding day. Per ESPN’s Rich Cimini, the Jets were required to release Stanford by April 15 because he ended last year on injured reserve. Assuming he’s brought back, Stanford will serve as depth behind starters David Harris and Darron Lee at inside linebacker.
